Providing opportunities for young people to be involved in all aspects of theatre is a longstanding objective of Theatre 62. At least one play per season is chosen to provide acting opportunities for Junior members. In addition they are encouraged to work backstage or to learn how to operate lighting and sound equipment.

For many years a combination of volunteer members and drama students ran weekly workshops for youngsters under the name First Act.

At the end of 2003 it was decided to operate these workshops on a more professional basis and agreement reached with Dramalab (which was looking for a new venue for its Beckenham Activities) to absorb First Act.
